    Este artículo estudia, mediante una perspectiva interdisciplinaria, las expectativas y consecuencias de las prohibiciones de bebidas embriagantes en México –antes Nueva España– desde el siglo xvi hasta el siglo xx, con el objetivo de distinguir similitudes y diferencias entre ellas. El trabajo contribuye a la observación de estructuras políticas y sociales que subyacen a los esquemas de regulación y prohibición tanto del pasado como del presente, para lo cual se realiza un análisis diacrónico de larga duración con base en fuentes primarias e historiografía. Se resalta que en el esquema vigente de prohibición de sustancias adictivas, definido desde inicios del siglo xx, puede distinguirse la persistencia de diversos elementos dentro de un largo proceso histórico.

    This article studies, through an interdisciplinary perspective, the expectations and consequences of the prohibitions of intoxicating beverages in Mexico –formerly New Spain– from the 16th century to the 20th century, with the aim of distinguishing similarities and differences between them. The work contributes to the observation of political and social structures that underlie the regulation and prohibition schemes of both the past and the present, for which a long-term diachronic analysis is carried out based on primary sources and historiography. It is highlighted that in the current scheme of prohibition of addictive substances, defined since the beginning of the 20th century, the persistence of various ele-ments within a long historical process can be distinguished
