Resumen de Javier Cercas y el potencial infinito de la literatura. Intertextualidad y metaficción en "El móvil" (1987)

En este artículo se estudia la importancia que la literatura tiene en la primera obra publicada por Javier Cercas, El móvil (1987), protagonizada por un escritor obsesionado por construir una novela perfecta, Álvaro, y en cuyo pensamiento se intuyen algunas ideas relevantes que Cercas ha defendido sobre la disciplina artística y el oficio creativo. Esta novela corta es objeto de análisis tanto por los temas que aparecen en la narración –el bloqueo creativo, el juego entre realidad y ficción, la importancia de unos géneros sobre otros o la necesidad de tener en cuenta la tradición– como por la forma en que se despliega su estructura. Por ello, además de los motivos narrativos, se analiza en profundidad la intertextualidad y metaficción del texto, ya que son dos herramientas teóricas decisivas para una mejor comprensión del andamiaje textual de este trabajo propio de la literatura posmoderna. Al acometer este estudio, se entiende que la ópera prima de Cercas, pese a ser escrita cuando apenas tenía 24 años de edad, no se puede desdeñar, ya que en ella se encuentran patrones estilísticos, estéticos y temáticos que son habituales en la producción literaria del hoy reconocido escritor, de ahí que El móvil anticipe y dialogue con la novelística posterior del autor, especialmente en lo referido a la reflexión sobre el oficio literario y sus numerosos enigmas.

This article studies the importance of literature in the first work published by Javier Cercas, El móvil (1987), whose main character is a writer obsessed with constructing a perfect novel, Álvaro, and in whose thoughts we can intuit some relevant ideas that Cercas has defended about the artistic discipline and the creative profession. This short novel is the object of analysis both for the themes that appear in the narrative –the creative block, the interplay between reality and fiction, the importance of some genres over others, the need to take tradition into account– and for the way in which its structure unfolds. For this reason, in addition to the narrative motifs, the intertextuality and metafiction of the text are analysed in depth, as they are two decisive theoretical tools for a better understanding of the textual scaffolding of this work, which is typical of postmodern literature. In undertaking this study, it is understood that Cercas’s opera prima, despite being written when he was 24 years old, cannot be disregarded, since it contains stylistic, aesthetic and thematic patterns that are common in the literary production of the now renowned writer, which is why El móvil anticipates and dialogues with the author’s later novel writing, especially with regard to the reflection on the literary profession and its numerous enigmas.
