    El Mar Menor ha sido habitado y explotado desde tiempos antiguos, configurando un área de importancia social, económica y ambiental a lo largo de los siglos. Debido a su rica historia y singularidad ambiental es un área muy apreciada y querida, ocupando un lugar muy especial en el corazón de muchos murcianos y visitantes. Con motivo de la celebración del Centenario del Instituto Español de Oceanografía, se celebraron en diciembre de 2014 unas Jornadas Científicas del Mar Menor. En dichas Jornadas investigadores de distintas instituciones y áreas presentaron sus trabajos de investigación en el Mar Menor, poniendo en común sus avances científicos y debatiendo distintos aspectos de futuro. Este libro reúne esas contribuciones y presenta una evaluación científica actual del estado de conocimiento del Mar Menor.

    The Mar Menor has been inhabited and exploited since ancient times. It is an historical area of importance social, economic and environmental. Because of its rich history and environmental singularity is very appreciated and loved by its inhabitants and visitors. On the occasion of the Centennial celebration of the Spanish Institute of Oceanography, a Scientific Symposium of the Mar Menor was held in December 2014. Researchers from different institutions and research fields showed their research in the Mar Menor, pooling their scientific advances and discussing various aspects of future. This book brings together these contributions and presents a scientific assessment of the current state of knowledge of the Mar Menor.
