La gitanilla and La ilustre fregona can be set apart from the other Novelas Ejemplares because of the high proportion of poetry they contain. This paper offers a parallel analysis of each poetic corpus, with special attention to the part played in each of these anthologies by such compositions as Preciosa's ¿good fortune¿ and Carriazo's chacona, highly charged with erotic connotations.
