  • Resumen
    • This essay aims to present the results of research conducted over the past year on the activity and life of the Neapolitan sculptor, Vincenzo Gemito (1852-1929), one of the majort figures in the artistic scene of his time. Gemito is not only known for being the main interpreter of the new realist language, central junction of the sculpture reform implemented in Naples in the second half of the nineteenth century, but also for playing a leading role in the Italian and French artistic panorama both as a sculptor and as a designer. Through the recovery of historical sources and unpublished works, this essay opens new horizons on the artist, particularly regarding his first stay in Paris and the relationships he formed there, which are still little known to scholars today. In fact, some important works hace been added to his catalog and, through the examination of documentary and printed materials, other works have been identified. These range from the "Portrait of the Painter Petrocelli", his first work completed in this youth, and to the drawings for "Fede", carried out when he was and adult, for the unrealized "Monument to Pope Pius X" in the Vatican
