This article attempts to establish an exhaustive catalogue of a particularly significant artefact of Carthaginian and Phoenician-Punic funerary practice. This concerns amulet cases – whether made of precious metal or not – from the most elementary tubular forms to the most elaborate ones, illustrated by Egyptian zoocephalous examples. These cases contained finely worked coiled bands, considered to have a high protective value – for the living as well as for the deceased in their journey to the afterlife. In this singular category, investigations were pursued in the Eastern Mediterranean, and more specifically in Egypt, with a view to defining and confirming or not the origin of this unrivalled innovative design which, according to current knowledge, seems to owe as much as its contents to the workshops of the Western Mediterranean, Carthage and Tharros in particular.

Tentative d’une mise en place d’un répertoire aussi exhaustif que possible concernant un artefact particulièrement significatif du mobilier funéraire carthaginois et phénico-punique. Il s’agit en l’occurrence d’étuis porte-amulettes – en métal précieux ou non – des plus élémentaires sous forme tubulaire aux plus élaborés illustrés par les exemplaires zoocéphales égyptisants. Dépositaires de bandes enroulées finement imagées à haute valeur protectrice, leurs pouvoirs sont assurés aussi bien pour les vivants que pour les défunts dans leur périple vers l’au-delà. Dans cette catégorie singulière, les investigations ont été poursuivies en Méditerranée orientale et plus particulièrement en Égypte en vue de chercher à définir et à confirmer ou non l’origine de cette conception novatrice sans égale qui, en l’état des connaissances actuelles, semble bien être redevable, tout comme leurs contenus, aux ateliers de Méditerranée occidentale, Carthage et Tharros en particulier.
