Offshore energy installations have experienced a significant growth since their proposal. However, the technical challenges associated with the distance of generation to that of consumption has hindered further progress. In this context, High Voltage Direct Current Transmission (HVDCT) is emerging as an alternative to the usual Alternating Current link. The use of a Direct Current Link (DCL) opens the way for other systems such as multiphase generators. This study updates the potential advantages of using predictive control of multiphase systems in the realm of offshore energy production, using wind and/or waves as the primary energy source. In particular, the need and advantages of using locally tuned weighting factors is explored.
