The challenges of employing robotics in improving social skills among students with autism spectrum disorder from their teachers’ perspectives

    • Aim: This investigation aimed to understand the challenges facing teachers of autism spectrum disorder and mental disability in employing robotics applications. Methodology: The research used the descriptive analytical method because it is more appropriate to the nature and objectives of the current research. The sample consisted of 122 teachers and specialists for children with autism spectrum disorder and mental retardation in schools and centres for people with special needs. The study used a questionnaire as the instrument to collect data from the participants on the use of robotics in special education and with students with autism. Results: The findings showed that the average scores of teachers and specialists were high on the dimension of the challenge, which indicates the strength of these challenges, topped by the technical and physical challenges as the biggest challenges facing the use of robotics applications in educating and rehabilitating children with autism spectrum disorder and mental disability. Conclusion: Teachers and experts concur that the availability of the material aspect and devices, which stand in for the material and technical obstacles, should be at the forefront of all ongoing studies in the Arab environment.
