  • Resumen
    • In recent decade the study of Autistic Spectrum Disorders (ASD) is burgeoning with significant impacts for both society and stakeholders. This paper considers recent evidence on ASD education, highlighting the contribution of special education teachers. Their role holds an outstanding part for the educative development of students with special educational needs, as they are considered in- disputable and irreplaceable body of the special education. Demands and expectations of their role in the education system and in society are extremely high, since their undertaken work for the education of students with ASD is multifaceted and multiform. While social attitudes changed towards disability causing transformation to the perception of the role of a special education teacher, cooperation with parents, empathy and family-centered orientation are requested as prerequisites for a contemporary special education teacher. The ultimate goal for leading ASD adolescents to autonomy entails mutual collaboration and support among stakeholders, parents and special education teachers.
