Resumen de El dominio público, un callejón sin salida para la memoria cinematográfica

Elio Quiroga Rodríguez

  • The author warns of the situation of limbo in which cinematographic works are left when they pass into the so-called "public domain" in terms of intellectual property Drawing on various national and international examples, he examines a situation that affects and will affect cinematographic works, and which must be faced by society as a whole. What is the value of a cinematographic artistic work? Is it intrinsic to the work, or does it depend on whether or not it has an owner? When a cinematographic work enters the "public domain", its commercial exploitation is forced into a hiatus, depriving audiences and viewers of an artistic creation, with all that this implies. In a way, cinema is left in a situation of orphanhood when it enters into such a situation. This text aims to highlight these aspects.
