Jorge Pinto, Isabel Bentes, Sandra Pereira

  • Rehabilitation is an essential part of the construction sector. It may be a sustainable option and a way to save cultural heritage. The rehabilitation of buildings may have additional challenges when compared with new construction. The existing construction has to be considered in all the projects. The rehabilitation processes have been applied to the public and private sectors. In terms of the public field, council accommodation, schools, and hospitals are some public building types under rehabilitation. The rehabilitation processes have been showing rehabilitation 4.0 trends in which health issues are always vital. This research intends to present some cases of recently rehabilitated public buildings in which these health issues were considered. Council accommodations and public schools are the types of public buildings targeted. The obtained results may enhance these important building aspects and guide future rehabilitation processes, particularly from the health point of view in construction.
