Resumen de Relación entre el deterioro cognitivo y el autoconcepto en los adultos mayores indígenas

  El deterioro cognitivo en adultos mayores surge como respuesta al envejecimiento y la interacción de factores biológicos, psicológicos y sociales, con implicaciones más allá de la percepción social. El objetivo fue analizar la relación entre deterioro cognitivo y autoconcepto en adultos mayores indígenas. Se utilizó una metodología cuantitativa, observacional, prospectiva, analítica y transversal. Se aplicaron el Fototestpara medir deterioro cognitivo en lenguaje, funciones ejecutivas y memoria episódica;y la Escala Autoconcepto Forma 5 para evaluar autoconcepto académico, social, emocional, familiar y físico. Participaron 52 adultos mayores de la comunidad indígena Angla, Ecuador. Los resultados mostraron una relación negativa entre deterioro cognitivo yautoconcepto, concluyendo que, a mayor deterioro cognitivo, menor autoconcepto, vinculado principalmente con las dimensiones laboral, física y social.

  Cognitive impairment in older adults arises as a response to aging and the interaction of biological, psychological, and social factors, with implications beyond social perception. The objective was to analyze the relationship between cognitive impairment and self-concept in indigenous older adults. A quantitative, observational, prospective, analytical, and cross-sectional methodology was used. The Fototest was applied to measure cognitive impairment inlanguage, executive functions, and episodic memory; and the Self-Concept Scale Form 5 to assess academic, social, emotional, family, and physical self-concept. 52 older adults from the Angla indigenous community in Ecuador participated. The results showeda negative relationship between cognitive impairment and self-concept, concluding that the greater the cognitive impairment, the lower the self-concept, mainly linked to the work, physical, and social dimensions.
