Resumen de Thailand’s traditional art of water hyacinth weaving: Reviving a craft for modern sustainability
Objectives: Addressing the ecological challenge posed by Southeast Asia’s invasive water hyacinths, this research presents an innovative strategy for their conversion into sustainable wickerwork. Methodology: The study, grounded in indigenous knowledge, applied qualitative research to investigate the transformation of water hyacinths into environmentally friendly products. Collaborating with the Bueng Kho Hai community, it uncovered a unique method of integrating 40% water hyacinth fiber with 60% cotton, creating a fabric that blends traditional craft with modern sustainability. Results: This development not only highlights the ingenuity of Thai craftsmanship but also aligns with ecological preservation efforts. Conclusion: The research underscores the potential of traditional knowledge in contemporary economic models, promoting both cultural heritage and environmental sustainability.
