Common random e ects models for repeated ordinal measurements account for the heterogeneity in the population by including subject-speci c intercepts or variable e ects. They do not account for the heterogeneity in answering tendencies. Extended models are proposed that account for the tendency to choosing extreme or middle responses where location e ects as well as the tendency to extreme or middle responses are modeled as functions of explanatory variables. An example demonstrates the applicability of the method.
