    El artículo reproduce un amplísimo informe que el nuncio Gaetano Cicognani envió a la Secretaría de Estado del Vaticano sobre la situación político-religiosa de España entre 1939 y 1944; ilustra la personalidad del primer representante pontificio ante el Nuevo Estado Español, nombrado en 1938 y sintetiza los grandes temas de su misión diplomática, que terminó en octubre de 1953, tras su elevación al cardenalato. El informe estudia las grandes cuestiones de la política interior e internacional, así como los aspectos más importantes de la organización eclesiástica española.

    This article reproduces a very extensive report that the nuncio Gaetano Cicognani sent to the Vatican Secretariat of State on the political-religious situation of Spain between 1939 and 1944; it illustrates the personality of the first pontifical representative to the New Spanish State, appointed in 1938 and synthesizes the great themes of his diplomatic mission, which ended in October 1953, after his elevation to the cardinalate. The report studies the great questions of domestic and inter national politics, as well as the most important aspects of the Spanish ecclesiastical organization.
