Resumen de Social perception of Chinese people regarding heritage art representations on China

  • Objective: The aim of research study was to investigate how the general public in China perceives and responds to heritage art representations in subway mural stations and Furthermore to determine the extent to which subway mural stations contribute to the preservation and promotion of China’s cultural heritage. Methods: A diverse cross-section of the Chinese population participated in the study, with a sample size of 100 respondents selected using random sampling techniques. Quantitative data collected through surveys analyzed using statistical software to identify patterns, trends, and correlations in respondents’ perceptions and preferences. Qualitative data from interviews and observations analyzed using thematic analysis to extract common themes, opinions, and narratives related to the heritage art. Results: Key demographic characteristics revealed that the respondents were balanced in terms of gender, with varying age groups, education levels, and occupations, representing different regions of China. The majority of the respondents, 55%, were female, while 45% were male. The participants’ ages were well-distributed, with the largest group being in the 25-34 age range (30%), followed by those aged 35-44 (25%). The study shows that 30% of respondents with high heritage art presence have a mean perception score of 3.56 with a standard deviation of 0.923. For those with high heritage art presence, 25% perceive public recognition with a mean score of 4.02 and a standard deviation of 1.052. In assessing the extent of heritage preservation and promotion, the study found that the presence of heritage art in subway stations was rated moderately high, with strong public recognition and engagement. The study provides valuable insights into the social perception of heritage art in subway mural stations and its contribution to cultural heritage preservation and promotion in China. Conclusion: The study concluded that that mural stations on China’s subways play an important part in the protection and dissemination of the country’s cultural heritage.
