Las llagas de san Francisco: ¿Cómo y para qué?

    Con motivo del octavocentenario de la impresión de las señales que los clavos y la lanzada de Cristo dejaron en Francisco de Asís, nosacercamos a la posibilidad de comprender ese acontecimiento como experiencia mística cristiana. La tradición franciscana sigue el patrón de los primeros biógrafos (Tomás de Celanoy san Buenaventura) y de las representaciones pictóricas de Giotto en la basílica del Sacro Convento de Asís. Son aproximaciones externas que han de situarse en la experiencia vital de Francisco en torno al año 1224,tiempo de renuncias y de incomprensiones por parte de los hermanos a un proyecto de vida por hacer. Lo profundo deFrancisco lo vemos en sus Escritos, en las Cartas, en las que sigue lahilazón de la noche de Getsemaní,en la que Jesús entrega su obra en manos del Padre.¿Sirve esto para mostrar y explicar a nuestros contemporáneos lo que es una experiencia mística? ¿Nosayuda a los cristianos a configurarnos y asemejarnos,en este momento de la historia,a Cristo?

    On the occasion of the 8th centenary of the impression of the signs that Christ's nails and spear left on Francis of Assisi, we approach the possibility of understanding that event as a Christian mystical experience. The Franciscan tradition follows the pattern of the first biographers (Thomas of Celano and Saint Bonaventure) and of the pictorial representations of Giotto in the basilica of the Sacred Convent of Assisi. They are external approximations that must be situated in Francis' life experience around the year 1224; time of renunciations and misunderstandings on the part of the brothers about a life project to be done. We see the depth of Francis in his Writings, in the Letters, in which he follows the thread of the night of Gethsemane, in which Jesusdelivers his work into the hands of the Father. Does this serve to show and explain to our contemporaries what a mystical experience is? Does it help us Christians to configure ourselves and resemble, at this moment in history, Christ?
