Resumen de Análisis de la Participación de las Universidades Líderes de América Latina en los Rankings Globales

  El presente trabajo realiza un análisis comparativo de la participación de las universidades líderes latinoamericanas en los rankings globales. Se propone el estudio de cinco universidades, tomando como referencia a tres de los rankings globales con mayor número de citas entre la comunidad académica internacional. Las variables consideradas son dos, por una parte, el análisis de los Planes de Desarrollo Institucional (PDI) y su direccionamiento hacia los estándares de los rankings, y por otro lado la participación de las propias universidades en cada ranking. En cuanto a los principales resultados se tiene que a pesar de que los indicadores de los rankings globales claramente señalan a un ideal universitario lejano a la naturaleza de las instituciones latinoamericanas, estas han logrado permear a partir de la adopción y adaptación de estrategias que les permiten competir con instituciones de otras regiones como Asia, Europa, e incluso Norte América.

  This paper performs a comparative analysis of the participation of leading Latin American universities in global rankings. The study of five universities is proposed, taking as reference three of the global rankings with the highest number of citations among the international academic community. The variables considered are two, on the one hand, the analysis of the Institutional Development Plans (PDI) and their direction towards the standards of the rankings, and on the other hand, the participation of the universities themselves in each ranking. Regarding the main results, despite the fact that the indicators of the global rankings clearly point to a university ideal far from the nature of Latin American institutions, these have managed to permeate through the adoption and adaptation of strategies that allow them to compete with institutions from other regions such as Asia, Europe, and even North America.
