A consequence of the annexation of the Netherlands by the French Empire in 1810 was the sudden introduction of French legislation. That led to a number of problems, as the documents in the archives reveal. However, the years of annexation had a considerable influence on the subsequent legislation of the Kingdom of the Netherlands for the last laws dating from that period were not abolished until January 1st, 1970.
