    Del testimonio al sentimiento: Querido Diego, te abraza Quiela (1978) de Elena Poniatowska, junto con Canción de Rachel (1969) del cubano Miguel Barnet, anticipan el surgimiento de la nueva novela sentimental hispa­ noamericana, género que actualmente ha desplazado en popularidad e in­ fluencia tanto a la narrativa del boom de la década de 1960 como a la novelísti­ ca testimonial o documental de las dos décadas  siguientes. Curiosamente, tanto Barnet como Poniatowska fueron también los fundadores del género testimonial con Biografía de un cimarrón (1966) y Hasta no verte, jesús mío (1969), respectivamente. Este trabajo examina cómo Poniatowska efectúa la transición desde la narrativa testimonial hasta la sentimental en Querido Die· go.., y establece, a partir del análisis de esta novela y de fuentes teóricas sobre el amor como L 'amour et l'Occident (1956) de Denis de Rougemont, algunos de los rasgos característicos de la nueva novela sentimental hispanoamericana.

    From testimony to sentiment: Querido Diego, te abraza Quiela (1978) by Elena Poniatowska, together with Canción de Rachel (1969) by the Cuban Miguel Barnet, anticipate the emergence of the new Spanish American sentimental novel, a genre that has displaced both in popularity and influence the narrative boom of the sixties as well as the testimonial or documentary novels of the following two decades. lnterestingly enough, Barnet and Poniatowska were also the founders of the testimonial genre with Biografía de un cimarrón (1966) and Hasta no verte, Jesús mío (1969), respectively. This article examines how Ponía· towska effects the transition from testimonial to sentimental narrative in Queri­ do Diego..., and establishes, through the analysis of this novel and with theoretic sources about love such as L'amour et l'Occident (1956) by Denis de Rougement, sorne of the characteristic traits of the new Spanish American sentimental novel.
