Staphylococus aureus methicillin-resistant (MRSA), is a prevalent cause of multiple infections, such as skin infections and infections of soft tissues. The resistance itself is given by the horizontal transmission of SCCmec (staphylococcal cassette chromosome mec), which has the gene with the information of the resistance to methicillin (mecA). This microorganism emerged as a nosocomialstrain (HA-MRSA), but its evolution introduced new strains in the community (CA-MRSA). Because of the resistance, the local and systemic infections became a problem regarding the treatment of the patients with antibiotics, apart of being more aggressive and producing more hospitalizations. This means a higher spending in health institutions. The fact that the strain is methicillin-resistant (also to other antibiotics) with its characteristics of pathogenicity, provided by different toxins such as TSST-1; PVL; enterotoxins; and exfoliative toxin; are the reason why nowadays the staphylococcus aureus methicillin-resistant is defined as an emerging microorganism.
