    El virus SARS-COV-2 se originó en China y dio lugar a la entidad COVID-19. Desde entonces se ha expandido a más de 6 millones de personas en todo el mundo. Es un virus de ARN monocatenario envuelto. Este tipo de virus es zoonótico y el virus recién descubierto no ha causado enfermedades humanas anteriormente. COVID-19 es una enfermedad altamente contagiosa, oculotrópica y potencialmente mortal. Las principales vías de transmisión del virus son la transmisión aérea, la transmisión por inhalación y el contacto directo a través de secreciones. Se han identificado receptores virales, como la enzima convertidora de angiotensina 2 (ACE2), que facilitan la entrada viral en la piel periocular lipófila y la película lagrimal. Sin embargo, aún no está claro si el epitelio conjuntival expresa este receptor. Se cree que el virus que ingresa a la superficie del ojo puede causar infecciones del tracto respiratorio y digestivo. Sin embargo, el paso opuesto a través de la cavidad nasal y, por tanto, hasta el conducto lagrimal y la membrana sigue siendo objeto de investigación. Se reporta paciente masculino de 25 años que refiere conjuntivitis desde hace 10 días, se automedica con coloides oftálmicos sin obtener mejoría, se evidencia persistencia de conjuntivitis acompañada de secreción purulenta mas prurito.

    The SARS-COV-2 virus originated in China and gave rise to the entity COVID-19. It has since expanded to more than 6 million people worldwide. It is an enveloped single-stranded RNA virus. This type of virus is zoonotic and the newly discovered virus has not previously caused human disease. COVID-19 is a highly contagious, oculotropic and potentially fatal disease. The main routes of transmission of the virus are airborne transmission, inhalation transmission and direct contact through secretions. Viral receptors, such as angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2), have been identified that facilitate viral entry into the lipophilic periocular skin and tear film. However, it is still unclear whether the conjunctival epithelium expresses this receptor. It is believed that the virus that enters the surface of the eye can cause respiratory and digestive tract infections. However, the opposite passage through the nasal cavity and thus to the tear duct and membrane remains the subject of research. A 25-year-old male patient is reported who has reported conjunctivitis for 10 days, self-medicating with ophthalmic colloids without obtaining improvement, persistence of conjunctivitis accompanied by purulent secretion plus pruritus is evident.
