    El objetivo de este trabajo radica en resaltar la importancia de la patología relacionada con la infección producida por el VHS-1, dada la frecuencia con que ésta aparece en la población general. Por esta razón, todo profesional del ámbito odontológico debe conocer las características estructurales y el comportamiento de este miembro de la familia Herpesviridae, los factores capaces de desencadenar la infección, las manifestaciones clínicas más frecuentes y su evolución, su diagnóstico, su tratamiento, su pronóstico y sus complicaciones, sin olvidar todas las medidas de que se dispone para prevenir el contagio.

    Tbe aim of this work is to stand out the importance of the pathology related to the HSV-1 infection, so long as this occurs frequently between the general population. For this reason, each professional of the odontological field must know: the structural traits and the behaviour of this membership of the family Herpesviridae; the factors that let the infection loose; the most frequent clinical manifestations and their evolution; the diagnosis, the treatment, the prognosis and the complications, as well as the different preventive measures.
