Resumen de La Tercera Guerra Carlista en el Valle de Guriezo

El presente trabajo es un compendio de información sobre la Tercera Guerra Carlista en el Valle de Guriezo y trata de dar visibilidad a un periodo poco conocido de nuestra Historia regional. Para ello se han consultado numerosos periódicos en la Hemeroteca Digital de la Biblioteca Nacional de España y diversos documentos en el Archivo Foral de Bizkaia, en el Archivo Histórico Provincial de Cantabria y en el Archivo Municipal del Ayuntamiento de Guriezo, así como diferente bibliografía de otros autores.
En el artículo se pone de manifiesto la relevancia estratégica de Guriezo debido a su equidistancia geográfica con respecto a las ciudades liberales de Santander y Bilbao, su emplazamiento situado en la retaguardia liberal durante la Batalla de Somorrostro o su cercanía a Las Encartaciones desde donde partidas carlistas accedían con facilidad al valle. En el trabajo se detallan las acciones de estas partidas, como por ejemplo la referente al secuestro de la corporación municipal, los cortes del hilo telegráfico o el incendio del puente de El Pontarrón. El artículo es una continuidad del trabajo “La Primera Guerra Carlista en el Valle de Guriezo” publicado en el anterior número de esta revista

This paper is a compilation of information of the Third Carlist War in Guriezo Valley. The aim is to shed light on a quite unknown historical period. To do so, many newspapers have been thoroughly reviewed in the Digital Newspaper Archive of the Spanish National Library; several documents have been consulted in the Regional Archive of Biscay, in the Regional Historical Archive of Cantabria, in the Municipal Archive of Guriezo Townhall together with bibliography from other authors.
The paper stresses the strategy importance of Guriezo due to the geographical equidistance in regard to the liberal cities of Santander and Bilbao, the location on the liberal rearguard during the Battle of Somorrostro or the proximity to Las Encartaciones, where most of the carlist squads where coming from. The essay describes the actions of these groups, such as the governing body kidnaping, the telegraph wire cuts or “El Pontarrón” bridge fire. This paper is the continuation of “The First Carlist War in Guriezo Valley” published in the previous issue of this journal
