    La modernidad burguesa y la madre expone algunos de los conceptos que resultan indispensables para entender la maternidad actual y cómo esta se representa en las artes visuales. Trata la figura maternal desde las revoluciones hasta el siglo XIX, y expone como la caracterización de la madre como «Ángel del hogar» o las representaciones sublimadas de diferentes artistas en sus pinturas supusieron la consumación de un arquetipo de maternidad dulcificada e idealizada. La metodología de la que me he servido para realizar esta investigación es, principalmente, la corriente historiográfica conocida como historia cultural. En este caso he analizado un tema de género utilizando las imágenes –que nacen en un espacio y contexto concreto– como objeto de estudio.

    Creo que esta disciplina es la más adecuada para mi trabajo, ya que liga los elementos culturales, en este caso el arte, con el entorno en el que fueron realizados. Asimismo, el área desde la cual realizo mi trabajo, la estética, reflexiona sobre las imágenes, que es lo que se pretende hacer en la comunicación. Así, veremos cómo las imágenes crean un ideal en el imaginario colectivo de lo que se debe esperar de una buena madre; que no solo debe infundir cuidados –mientras que vive y se encuentra en la esfera privada– sino que también debe educar y preparar a los hijos para la socialización y vida pública.

    Bourgeois Modernity and the Mother exposes some of the concepts that are essential to understand current motherhood and how it is represented in the visual arts. It deals with the maternal figure from the Revolutions to the 19th century, exposing how the characterization of the mother as "Angel of the Home" or the sublimated representations of different artists in her paintings supposed the consummation of an archetype of sweetened and idealized motherhood. The methodology that I have used to carry out this research is mainly the historiographical current known as cultural history. In this case, I have analyzed a gender issue using images –which are born in a specific space and context– as an object of study. I believe that this discipline is the most suitable for my work, since it links cultural elements, in this case art, with the environment in which they were made. Likewise, the area from which I carry out my work, aesthetics, reflects on images, which is what is intended to be done in communication. Thus, we will see how images create an ideal in the collective imagination of what should be expected from a good mother; that she should not only instill care –while she lives and is in the private sphere– but she must also educate and prepare her children for socialization and public life.
