Las vertientes de una fuente primaria. El Grand Tour en el siglo XVII

    La propuesta versa sobre mi tesis doctoral, actualmente en proceso de redacción, que gira en torno al Grand Tour que realiza el primogénito del ministro más longevo de la historia de España, Miguel de Múzquiz, durante los años 1771 y 1772. Este viaje, partiendo desde Madrid y pasando por el sur de Francia hasta llegar a Italia, servirá a De Múzquiz para entrar en la Corte de Carlos III como mayordomo de Semana. Es, por tanto, claramente un viaje de iniciación del primogénito de una familia nobiliaria importante para su incorporación en la corte real. La particularidad de este trabajo radica en que el documento, siendo público en el Portal de Archivos Españoles (PARES), no había sido trabajado por ningún investigador con anterioridad; tanto es así, que en el mismo índice del documento no constaba ni autor ni año de edición. Fue a partir de la presente investigación en diversos archivos como Simancas, Sueca, Valencia o Villagonzalo, cuando estas incógnitas pudieron ser resueltas. Este artículo hablará sobre cómo pudimos relacionar esta fuente primaria con lo que de él se desprende, como información económica, sobre la sociedad, la política o las élites nobiliarias del último tercio del siglo XVIII. En materia económica, veremos qué era lo habitual adquirir para un noble en un trayecto de largo recorrido, así como la compra de libros en plena Ilustración; en cuanto a sociedad, ver qué personajes interactúan con nuestro viajero, sus funciones y papel en la corte de Carlos III; por último, qué acontecimientos vive nuestro protagonista principal en primera persona durante estos 449 días que dura su aventura.

    My proposal is about my Doctoral Thesis, currently in the writing process, which revolves around the Grand Tour carried out by the eldest son of the longest-serving Minister in the history of Spain, Miguel Múzquiz, during the years 1771 and 1772. This trip, starting from Madrid and passing through the south of France until reaching Italy, he will serve Agustín de Múzquiz to enter the Court of Carlos III as Mayordomo de Semana. It is, therefore, clearly an initiation journey for the eldest son of an important noble family for his incorporation into the Royal Court. The particularity of this work lies in the fact that the document, being public on the Portal of Spanish Archives (PARES), had not been worked on by any researcher before; So much so, that in the same index of the document there was neither author nor year of publication. It was from the present investigation in various archives such as Simancas, Sueca, Valencia or Villagonzalo, when these unknowns could be resolved. This article will talk about how we were able to relate this primary source with its unknown author, and all the information that emerges from it, such as economic information, about society, politics or the noble elites of the last third of the 18th century. In economic matters, we will see what was usual for a nobleman to acquire on a long-distance journey, as well as the purchase of books in the middle of the Enlightenment; in terms of society, see which characters interact with our traveler, his functions and role in the Court of Carlos III; Finally, what events does our main protagonist experience in the first person during these 449 days that his adventure lasts.
