  En la mayoría de los cultivos, la densidad de siembra representa uno de los factores que inciden directamente en la producción, principalmente de los granos básicos y específicamente, el maíz. Este trabajo se realizó en los años 1984, 1985 y 1986 con el objetivo de evaluar las variedades e híbridos comerciales de maíz a diferentes densidades de siembra, para el sistema mecanizado de producción de maíz. Los resultados obtenidos nos permiten indicar la factibilidad de producir maíz en siembras mecanizadas a densidades de 62,500 plantas por hectárea (0.80 x 0.20 cm) con las variables e híbridos recomendados para Chiriquí en siembras de postrera. Con esta densidad obtuvimos rendimientos promedios de 5265, 3421 y 5543 kg/ha, respectivamente, siendo la densidad más estable a través de los años de la evaluación. Los híbridos comerciales X-304 C, X-306 B y X-3214 alcanzaron los mayores rendimientos promedios de todos los años con 5489, 4774 y 4763 kg/ha, respectivamente. Entre las variedades nacionales Across 7728 y tocumen 7428 obtuvieron rendimientos promedios de 4585 y 4334 kg/ha, respectivamente.

  In the greater part of the crops, the density of sowing represents one of the elements which directly fall into production, mainly of basic seeds and specially corn. This job was made between 1984 and 1986 whose main objective was to evaluate commercial varieties and hybrids of corn to a different crops densities, for a mechanical system of corn production. The results allow us to indicate the feasibility of corn production in mechanical crops into densities of 62,500 plants by hectare (0.80 x 0.20 cm) with the suggested varieties and hybrids to Chiriqui on the hindermost crop. With this density we got outputs of 5265, 3421 and 5543 kg/ha, respectively, being the most stable density through the years of the evaluation. The commercial hybrids X-304C, X-306B and X-3214 got the greatest outputs from all the years with 5489, 4477 and 4763 kg/ha, respectively. Between the national varieties Across 7728 and Tocumen 7428 got outputs of 4585 and 4334 kg/ha, respectively.
