RESUMEN: La confusión existente en la descripción de la anatomía del hígado humano nos llevó a realizar esta revisión a nivel mundial. Las investigaciones se centran en la vascularización del hígado, el conocimiento obtenido mediante disecciones seriadas en embriones, fetos y adultos han aportado nuevos conocimientos que fundamentan nuevas definiciones. Investigadores de países distantes han coincidido en encontrar las bases para proponer una segmentación del hígado con siete segmentos portales.

SUMMARY: Due to a lack of consensus on the description of the human liver anatomy, we decided to explore different researches worldwide. Studies are focused on the hepatic vascularization. The results obtained through serial dissections in embryos, fetuses and adults have contributed to new definitions. Researchers around the world have agreed on finding the bases to propose a liver segmentation with seven portal segments.
