    El arte de la piedra seca es una técnica constructiva asociada al ámbito rural en el que interviene la piedracomo único material con responsabilidad estructural. Es una técnica muy elemental, utilizada en todo elplaneta y con infinitas variaciones tipológicas a lo largo del mundo. Esta técnica es un conocimientotradicional vinculado a actividades agrícolas y ganaderas, donde la economía de recursos es unaconstante.En 2018 la técnica de construcción en piedra en seco fue reconocida como Patrimonio Cultural Inmaterialde la Humanidad por la UNESCO. Este reconocimiento pone de manifiesto la renovada valoración de latécnica como nexo con nuestro pasado histórico y tradición constructiva, sumando ahora su utilidad parael futuro como elemento de conservación medioambiental.Estas construcciones definen nuestro paisaje agrario y tienen un importante valor identitario, aunque hoyen día están en peligro de desaparición como consecuencia del abandono del trabajo en el campo.En el caso de las Islas Canarias, la relación de esta técnica ancestral y el medio volcánico hace necesariouna atención especial a la investigación y promoción de la piedra seca en el archipiélago, pudiendoconvertirse en un excelente vehículo para el desarrollo económico y social de nuestros pueblos

    The art of dry stone is a construction technique associated with the rural environment that uses stone asthe only material with structural responsibility. It is a very elementary technique, used all over the planetand with infinite typological variations throughout the world. This technique is a traditional knowledgerelated to agricultural and livestock activities, where resources economy is always present.In 2018, the art of dry stone walling, knowledge and techniques, were inscribed on the Representative Listof the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO. This recognition highlights the renewedappreciation of the technique as a link with our historical past and construction tradition, now adding itsusefulness for the future as an element of environmental conservation.These constructions define our agricultural landscape and have an important identity value, although todaythey are in danger of disappearing, mainly as a result of the abandonment of work in the countryside.In the case of the Canary Islands, the relationship between this ancestral technique and the volcanicenvironment makes it necessary to pay special attention to the research and promotion of dry stone in thearchipelago, as it can become an excellent vehicle for the economic and social development of our towns
