    La Ruta de las cárceles del Matarraña (Teruel) constituye una innovadora oferta de turismo culturalbasada en la valorización de un conjunto de espacios carcelarios del Antiguo Régimen (siglos XVII –XVIII), sorprendentemente bien conservados en pequeños pueblos del área oriental de Aragón. Lamayoría de estas cárceles fueron construidas entre 1570 y 1620, aproximadamente, al formar parteindispensable de las estancias que conformaban las nuevas Casas Consistoriales o Ayuntamientos definales del Renacimiento. Algunas cárceles conservan excepcionales conjuntos de grafitis y mobiliario yfueron utilizadas hasta el siglo XX. Sobre ellas, sus condiciones de uso y los estatutos criminales existeabundante documentación que ha servido de base para su musealización y puesta en valor.

    The Matarraña Prison Route (Teruel) is an innovative cultural tourism offer based on the valorization ofa set of dungeons from the Spanish ancient regime (17th-18th centuries), which are surprisingly wellpreserved among small villages in the eastern area of Aragon. Most of these prisons were built between1570 and 1620 approximately, as they were an essential part of the rooms that made up the new CasasConsistoriales or Town Halls at the late Renaissance. Some prisons conserve exceptional sets of graffitiand furniture and were used until the 20th century. There is abundant documentation on these prisons,their conditions of use and criminal statutes, which has helped them become museums and achievevalorization
