    El autor del presente trabajo muestra cómo según las recientes reformas legislativas los animales son estimados como seres sintientes (dotados de sensibilidad), y han dejado, por ello, de ser simples cosas, pero sin dejar de ser bienes —aunque— singulares, pudiendo, incluso, ser estimados como bienes inmuebles por destinación a una finca, lo que, entre otros efectos prácticos, permite que sean hipotecados o pignorados junto a dicha finca siempre que no sean animales de compañía, o que siendo de compañía y domésticos puedan estimarse como parte de la vivienda familiar a los efectos de determinar su cuidado y tenencia en caso de crisis familiares o de muerte de su dueño sin testamento que prevea tal cuestión, o de cuestionar hoy la licitud de cualquier acuerdo estatutario que, sin más, prohíba o limite en exceso la tenencia de tales animales en las comunidades de vecinos (casos todos ellos, entre otros posibles, que son los expuestos en el presente trabajo).

    The author of the present work shows how, according to the recent legislative reforms, animals are considered as sentient beings (endowed with sensitivity), and have therefore ceased to be simple things, but without ceasing to be goods —although— singular, being able, even, be estimated as real estate for destination to a farm, which, among other practical effects, allows them to be mortgaged or pledged together with said farm provided they are not pets, or that being pets and domestic can be estimated as part of the family home for the purposes of determining its care and tenure in the event of a family crisis or death of its owner without a will that provides for such a matter, or to question today the legality of any statutory agreement that, without further ado, prohibits or limits in excessive possession of such animals in neighboring communities (all of them, among other possible cases, which are those exposed in the present work).
