La fragmentación en la narrativa de Pedro Páramo de Juan Rulfo ha sido de interés para los críticos desde que la novela se publicara en 1955. El presente trabajo alude a las lagunas de la narrativa impuestas por el autor para indagar sobre el papel activo del lector y propone dos posibilidades específicas. La primera consiste en que el lector se convierte en Juan Preciado y muere figurativamente por las voces que lo atormentan. La segunda es que el lector, a través del acto físico de la lectura, se convierte en una de las almas que pena interminablemente en Comala, convirtiéndolo en cómplice de un crimen literario. Para abordar estos objetivos, se referencian teorías de la recepción, como la de la muerte del autor y la del lector implícito.

The fragmented nature of Juan Rulfo’s Pedro Páramo has been of interest for critics since its publication in 1955. In this article, the author-designed gaps in the narrative are analyzed to inquire about the active role of the reader, proposing two specific possibilities for it. The first consists in the reader becoming Juan Preciado, and figuratively dying because of the voices that torment him. The second possibility is that the reader, through the physical process of reading, becomes one of the suffering souls that endlessly wander throughout Comala, and that ultimately kill Juan Preciado. In the second reading, the reader becomes an accomplice to a literary crime. To develop these arguments, theoretical frameworks centered around readerresponse criticism are referred to, specifically those related to the concepts of the death of the author and the implied reader.
