Resumen de Challenges for employment from covid imported reversed migration: an empirical study of the indian state of bihar

Ramun Prasad, Deepak Kumar Behera

  • This paper explores the consequences of COVID-19 as reverse migration and employment challenges in Bihar. This study used PLFS, Bihar Economic Survey, Migration Survey, and Ministry of Rural Development data. The outbreak of Covid-19 made migrant labourers jobless, forcing them to return to their place of origin. Around 51 lakh households have been accommodated under MGNREGA in Bihar. Yet, the highest percentage of unemployment has been found among youths aged 15 to 29 years. This study suggests that the government must focus more on skill development to prepare skilled manpower so that the impact of such an unprecedented calamity can be minimized in the future.
