  The period of the First Republic in Brazil was marked by a large flow of European migrants. This work aims to understand the links between the Brazilian immigration legislation of the First Republic and the political and economic contexts of the period. A bibliographic review and a documental research were carried out in the Brazilian legislation between 1889-1930 (First Republic). The first part of the work brings the concept of the theory of the political economy of migrations and the reasons for using it in the present work. The second part seeks to understand how migration legislation was constructed in the First Republic based on the political theory of migration. Finally, in the last part of the work, the links between the legal regulation and the economic and political context of the period are summarized.

  O período da Primeira República no Brasil foi marcado por um fluxo significativo de migrantes europeus e como decorrência implementou-se um aparato legal para o controle da entrada e permanência desse grupo populacional. O objetivo deste trabalho é apreender os vínculos da legislação migratória brasileira da Primeira República com os contextos políticos e econômicos do período. Foram realizadas uma revisão bibliográfica e uma pesquisa documental na legislação brasileira no período de 1889 a 1930 (Primeira República). A primeira parte do trabalho traz o conceito da teoria da economia política das migrações e os motivos de empregála no presente trabalho. A segunda parte busca entender, a partir da teoria política das migrações, como a legislação migratória foi construída na Primeira República. Por fim, na última parte do trabalho sintetizam-se os vínculos entre o regramento legal e o contexto econômico e político do período.
