  ¿Qué es la identidad cultural para los latinoamericanos? ¿Qué papel desempeñan las leyendas en la construcción de la identidad del individuo? La identidad cultural es percibida como los rasgos y características que identifican a un determinado grupo y como estas características se han ido construyendo. Este artículo tiene como objetivo presentar una aproximación reflexiva acerca de las leyendas latinoamericanas como parte de la construcción de la identidad cultural de una región tan diversa y llena de riqueza cultural como es Latinoamérica. Para ello se analizaron criterios tales como: el significado de los relatos orales concebidos como tradiciones patrimoniales y su vínculo con el individuo y su identidad. Asimismo, analiza la relevancia que otorgan los individuos a estas tradiciones orales e identifica qué relatos se pueden considerar los más relevantes para la región. Basados en una revisión bibliográfica y mediante entrevistas realizadas a perfiles seleccionados mediante un muestreo no probabilístico e intencional, el texto revela, como conclusiones, la concepción de un grupo de latinoamericanos acerca de las tradiciones orales vinculadas a su identidad y como parte de dichos relatos pertenecen a la memoria colectiva e histórica de su país y de Latinoamérica.

  What is cultural identity for Latin Americans? What role do legends play in the construction of the individual's identity? Cultural identity is perceived as the traits and characteristics that identify a certain group and how these characteristics have been constructed. This article aims to present a reflective approach to Latin American legends as part of the construction of the cultural identity of such a diverse and culturally rich region as Latin America. To this end, criteria such as: the meaning of oral stories conceived as heritage traditions and their link to the individual and his or her identity were analysed. It also analyzes the relevance that individuals give to these oral traditions and identifies which stories can be considered the most relevant for the region. Based on a bibliographic review and through interviews with profiles selected through a non-probabilistic and intentional sampling, the text reveals, as conclusions, the conception of a group of Latin Americans about oral traditions linked to their identity and as part of these stories belong to the collective and historical memory of their country and of all Latin America.
