Resumen de Trujillo en tiempos de pandemia COVID 19: relatos etnográficos sobre la ciudad, el trabajo y la vida

La ciudad de Trujillo es una de las principales ciudades costeras del Perú. En su territorio confluyen la herencia prehispánica y colonial, convirtiéndola, hoy en día, en una urbe pluricultural y económicamente atractiva. En los últimos 50 años, el icónico Centro Histórico de Trujillo se ha visto asediado por el comercio informal cuya clásica expresión es el vendedor ambulante. Cientos de ellos recorren y ocupan las principales arterias urbanas del centro histórico ofertando sus productos al público. La crisis económica generada por la pandemia COVID 19, ha incrementado significativamente el número de ambulantes en la ciudad. Este artículo presenta un relato etnográfico de tiempos de pandemia; reseña la trayectoria demográfica de la ciudad, la primer y segunda ola y narra las peripecias de una mujer que transita del pequeño negocio al comercio ambulatorio, así como las estrategias de supervivencia de varios comerciantes -formales e informales- del circuito comercial más importante del centro histórico de Trujillo, evidenciando la importancia de conocer la cultura ambulante y un abordaje multidimensional, interdisciplinario e integrador.

The city of Trujillo is one of the main coastal cities of Peru. In its territory converge the pre-Hispanic and colonial heritage, making it, today, a multicultural and economically attractive city. In the last 50 years, the iconic Historical Center of Trujillo has been besieged by informal commerce whose classic expression is the street vendor. Hundreds of them travel and occupy the main urban arteries of the historical center offering their products to the public. The economic crisis generated by the COVID 19 pandemic has significantly increased the number of street vendors in the city. This article presents an ethnographic account of the times of pandemic; it reviews the demographic trajectory of the city, the first and second wave and narrates the adventures of a woman who moves from small business to ambulatory commerce, as well as the survival strategies of several merchants -formal and informal- of the most important commercial circuit of the historical center of Trujillo, evidencing the importance of knowing the ambulant culture and a multidimensional, interdisciplinary and integrative approach.
