  • Resumen
    • This small synthesis aims to summarize the studies devoted to the ceramics of the 5th century from the western Mediterranean. Ceramology, the study of ceramic material, in archeology is one of the most developed fields in recent decades thanks to the development of stratigraphic excavations and archaeometric analyzes (geochemical and petrographic) on ceramics. The 5th century in the western Mediterranean is very rich in historical events, but its dating clues were rare and imprecise in archaeology. The development of ceramology is providing more and more data to fill this gap. Studies devoted to ceramics from the 5th century in the western Mediterranean also serve to analyze part of the craftsmanship and economic history of this period, providing clues for understanding the complexities of Mediterranean trade, such as the problem of distribution and redistribution, accentuated by the diversification of trade flows following the progressive abandonment of the state system organized around Rome.
