Resumen de De Arlés a las Hispanias: usurpadores y bàrbaros durante el periodo 408-411
This contribution examines the period from 408 to 411 in order to establish the impact that the events in Hispania may have had on the creation and eventual collapse of the power of the usurper Constantine III (407-411). The analysis follows two main lines of argument revolving around the two embassies dispatched by Constantine to the court of Honorius (395-423) in 409 because to some extent both legations addressed matters related to Hispania. The proposed hypothesis sustains that, although the victory over Dydimus and Verinianus, aristocrats of Hispania, allowed Constantine to consolidate his political position and granted his acknowledgement as the Augustus, otherwise, the political-military behaviour of Gerontius in Hispania played a pivotal role in the usurper’s failed trajectory.
