Evaluación del desempeño de Universidades Panameñas a través de los indicadores de Rankings Universitarios Internacionales

    El propósito de esta investigación es analizar el posicionamiento de las universidades panameñas en cuanto a calidad académica e investigación en dos de los rankings internacionales del año 2018: el QS Latin America Ranking y el Ranking Iberoamericano de Instituciones de Educación Superior (SCImago). Para esta investigación se han analizado los indicadores de la Reputación académica, la Reputación del empleador y la Proporción de Profesores por Alumno, indicadores evaluados en el QS Latin America University. En este estudio se analizaron además indicadores como Output, Colaboración Internacional, Impacto Normalizado, Publicaciones de Alta Calidad, Liderazgo Científico y Excelencia, seis factores fundamentales en el SCImago Institution Ranking.

    Esta investigación demuestra que los bajos puntajes en los indicadores de los rankings internacionales, y por ende, la escasa presencia de las universidades panameñas en los Rankings, constituye uno de los grandes desafíos en calidad académica y cultura investigativa, lo que debe llevar al mejoramiento de la enseñanza, la competitividad, la innovación y la docencia de las instituciones a nivel superior.

    The purpose of this research was to analyze the positioning of Panamanian universities in terms of academic quality and research in two of the 2018 international rankings: the QS Latin America Ranking and the Ibero-American Ranking of Higher Education Institutions (SCImago). For this research, the indicators of academic reputation, employer reputation, and the proportion of teachers per student have been analyzed: the indicators evaluated at the QS Latin America University. This study also analyzed indicators such as Output, International Collaboration, Standardized Impact, High-Quality Publications, Scientific Leadership and Excellence, six fundamental factors in the SCImago Institution Ranking.

    This research demonstrates that the low scores in the indicators of the international rankings, and therefore, the scarce presence of Panamanian universities in the Rankings, constitutes one of the great challenges in academic quality and research culture, which should lead to the improvement of the teaching, competitiveness, innovation and teaching of institutions at a higher level.
