  • Resumen
    • Until recently, the earliest documents concerning Dijon Masonry dated from 1767-9. However, in the Archives of the Netherlands Grand Lodge (Kloss Collection) there are a large number of papers from the Lillo Lodge, founded by von Schweinitz, a Dutch officier with a long experience of Masonry. We learn that when he was a prisoner of war in Dijon in 1748, Schweinitz remarked the existence of three lodges in that town, one of which (to which he became affiliated) was presided by the province's Engineer and met in the «Palais des États ». On his liberation, the Dutchman took with him copies of several documents about this lodge, and they give us a valuable insight into life inside a French lodge in 1748 ; they also prove that the Order existed in Dijon at least twenty years earlier than had been supposed.
