Preparación de paciente para intervención quirúrgica de hemicolectomía izquierda: caso clínico

    La hemicolectomía izquierda consiste en extirpar el lado izquierdo del colón y unir las partes remanentes del colón1.

    Este tipo de cirugías se utilizan para extirpar tumores en el cáncer colorrectal, para diverticulitis extensas o también se pueden realizar para el tratamiento de enfermedad de Crohn o colitis ulcerosa para el alivio de los signos y los síntomas2,3.

    Para la realización de este tipo de cirugías se necesita una preparación previa del colon para su correcta limpieza y visualización en la intervención quirúrgica (IQ). También, se debe de realizar rasurado de zona a intervenir con maquinilla eléctrica, si esto es necesario.

    Otra recomendación fuerte es la realización de baño completo previo a la cirugía.

    Antes de la operación se debe informar al paciente las diferentes opciones que existen y la posibilidad de realizarlas valorando cada caso. Respecto a la creación de un estoma para la eliminación de los desechos, es importante explicarle al paciente que existe posibilidad de tener que finalizar así la cirugía.

    Left hemicolectomy consists of removing the left side of the colon and joining the remaining parts of the colon1.

    These types of surgeries are used to remove tumors in colorectal cancer, for extensive diverticulitis, or can also be performed for the treatment of Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis to relieve signs and symptoms2,3.

    To perform this type of surgery, prior preparation of the colon is required for its correct cleaning and visualization during the surgical intervention (IQ). Also, the area to be intervened should be shaved with an electric razor, if necessary.

    Another strong recommendation is to take a complete bath before surgery.

    Before the operation, the patient must be informed of the different options that exist and the possibility of performing them, evaluating each case. Regarding the creation of a stoma to eliminate waste, it is important to explain to the patient that there is a possibility of having to end the surgery in this way.
