El thriller panameño como novela negra (divergente)

    Osvaldo Reyes y Ramón Francisco Jurado son los dos grandes escritores de novela negra en Panamá. Sus obras poseen interés porque son diferenciales con respecto a la tradición narrativa panameña, por un lado, y en comparación con el neopoliciaco latinoamericano o centroamericano, por el otro. Divergen incluso del canon de la novela policiaca a la inglesa o a la norteamericana. Se trata de textos cuyos referentes culturales tienen más que ver con el mundo audiovisual (el cine, la televisión, el cómic) que con el universo literario propiamente dicho. Al examinar la producción narrativa de Osvaldo Reyes y de Ramón Francisco Jurado, se echan de ver las deudas con el cine y con las series de televisión tanto a nivel técnico (de técnica narrativa) como de contenido. La dominante no será ya, pues, como en otras novelas detectivescas, el enigma, el análisis social, la moral, la psicología o la estética, sino la pura emoción. En este sentido, se advertirá una metamorfosis desde el género de la novela negra hacia el thriller, que tanto éxito ha tenido en el arte cinematográfico. El protagonista tampoco será el héroe positivo de antaño, sino una figura problemática que aglutina en sí los profundos cambios en la sensibilidad estética de nuestro tiempo, tanto en lo que concierne al ámbito de los creadores como al de los lectores y espectadores.

    Osvaldo Reyes and Ramón Francisco Jurado are the two great writers of Panamanian crime novels. Their works are interesting because they are different from the Panamanian narrative tradition, on the one hand, and in comparison with the Latin American or Central American neo-police, on the other. They even diverge from the canon of the English or North American crime novel. These are texts whose cultural references have more to do with the audiovisual world (cinema, television, comics) than with the literary universe itself. When we examine the narrative production of Osvaldo Reyes and Ramón Francisco Jurado, we can see the debts with cinema and television series both at the technical level (narrative technique) and at the level of content.The dominant theme will no longer be, as in other detective novels, enigma, social analysis, morality, psychology or aesthetics, but pure emotion. In this sense, there will be a metamorphosis from the genre of the detective novel to the thriller, which has been so successful in the art of cinema. Nor will the protagonist be the positive hero of yesteryear, but a problematic figure who brings together the profound changes in the aesthetic sensibility of our time, both in terms of creators and readers and spectators.
