    En el presente estudio analizamos algunascaracterísticas de la biología reproductiva de Broughtonia cubensis, especie de orquídea endémica de Cuba y las posibles implicaciones sobre ella del impacto de fenómenos atmosféricos severos como los huracanes. Los análisis se centran en tres momentos fundamentales: pre, post y cinco años posteriores al impacto. Se demuestra que las variables analizadas (área foliar, número de flores y frutos y sus medias anuales) disminuyen significativamente ante el impacto y algunas de ellas, como el área foliar, logran una total recuperación cinco años después, no así en las demás. Se demuestra también que tanto pre como post-impacto, existe una estrecha relación entre el área foliar y la longitud de inflorescencias y número de flores producidas, a mayor área mayor longitud y número de flores. Finalmente se llega a la conclusión de que los impactos de fenómenos atmosféricos severos producen serios daños a la biología reproductiva de la especie y que cinco años después la mayoría de los valores en las variables analizadas aún distan mucho de los obtenidos pre-impacto.

    This investigation pretend to make an analysis of some features of the reproductive biology of Broughtonia cubensis, a specie of cuban endemic orchids as well as the possible implications of the impacts due to severe atmospheric phenomena such as hurricanes. The analysis is focused on three main momentums: pre, post and five years after the impact. It is shown that the variables analyzed (foliar area, number of flowers and fruits and its annual means), notably decreased due to this impact, and some of them, such as foliar area, achieved a total recuperation after five years, which is not the case of the rest of the variables. It is also shown that as such as for pre and post impact momentums, existed a close relationship between the foliar area and the length of the inflorescences and the number of flowers. Finally it gets to the conclusion that the impacts as consequence of severe atmospheric phenomena produced sever damages to the reproductive biology of the specie, and five years later the majority of the values of the analyzed variables are still far from those obtained during the pre impact momentum.
