    La dimensión ambiental del proceso agrícola cubano no ha disfrutado de la atención requerida, tanto por sus impactos negativos sobre el medio ambiente como, particularmente, por la limitada evaluación de los importantes servicios ambientales que el ecosistema agroforestal le brinda a la sociedad. En el presente artículo se abordan, sintéticamente, ambos aspectos, los que, en su accionar simultáneo, representan un verdadero reto ambiental para Cuba en el sector agrícola, y con mayor énfasis, en el sector agropecuario. El objetivo principal del trabajo es destacar la importancia que para la producción agrícola cubana tienen los factores ambientales, principalmente aquellos vinculados a la situación de los suelos, la disponibilidad de los recursos hídricos y el impacto del cambio climático. Entre las conclusiones del trabajo se destacan: 1. El crecimiento económico y el desarrollo social de Cuba continuarán ejerciendo una fuerte presión sobre sus limitados recursos naturales, en especial la producción agrícola, que exigirá una mayor demanda de los suelos y el agua. 2. En el orden ambiental los principales factores de atención para la actividad agrícola son: Agua, Suelos, Energía, Biodiversidad y los Servicios de los Ecosistemas. 3. La producción agrícola cubana, actual y futura, en su modelo de desarrollo sostenible, deberá conjugar e integrar todos los conocimientos acerca de los recursos naturales y los ecosistemas, con vistas a identificar y seleccionar las medidas y acciones que correspondan para garantizar la demanda de suficientes alimentos nutritivos e inocuos para toda la población.

    The environmental dimension of the process agricultural Cuban does not have the required attention, such as for its negative impacts on the environment as for the limited evaluation of the important environmental services that the agricultural and forest ecosystem offers to the society. This article approaches, synthetically, both aspects that simultaneous represent a true environmental challenge for Cuba in the agricultural sector, and thoroughly, in the agricultural sector. The main objective of the work is to highlight the importance that the environmental factors have for Cuban agricultural production, mainly those linked to the situation of the soils, the availability of the hydrological resources and the impact of the climatic change. Among the conclusions of the work we can mention:

    1. The economic growth and the social development of Cuba will continue exercising a strong pressure on their limited natural resources. Especially the agricultural production will require a bigger demand on the soils and the water.

    2. In the environmental order the main factors of attention for the agricultural activity are: water, soils, Energy, Biodiversity and the Services of the Ecosystems.

    3. The Cuban current and future agricultural production, in their model of sustainable development, it will conjugate and integrate all the knowledge about the natural resources and the ecosystems, in order to identify and select the measures and actions that correspond to guarantee the demand of enough nutritious and innocuous foods for the whole population.
