    • The Planets’ Approximate Rising and Setting Times (PARST) educational tool is the first application that can be used to calculate and illustrate the rising and setting times of planets over long periods. Thus, educators, learners, and enthusiasts can better understand the repeating patterns hidden in these celestial events. The tool uses an archive of equatorial coordinates for all planets, spanning the past 50 years, to accurately determine these periodic changes, as demonstrated by the results of this study. The recurring patterns have been used to design an educational tool that can approximate each planet’s rising and setting times. This work introduces charts of these data in PARST. The tool displays the recurring patterns in a planet’s rising and setting times, which can enhance a student’s ability to recognize the characteristics of the pattern and relate it to the planet’s consecutive positions in its orbit.
