El pensamiento geopolítico de Manuel Mora Valverde: Visión y vigencia en el siglo XXI

    El presente artículo expone, por primera vez, los alcances y vigencia del pensamiento geopolítico de un benemérito costarricense, Manuel Mora Valverde. Muchos estudios se han realizado sobre su aporte al pensamiento social y político de Costa Rica, sin embargo, el análisis sobre las relaciones internacionales de su época y su profunda conciencia del espacio geográfico del continente americano, no ha sido estudiado y guarda una relevancia de carácter estratégico para la comprensión de los fenómenos geopolíticos, económicos e ideológicos contemporáneos dentro de los estudios internacionales, permitiendo la apertura de nuevas líneas de investigación relacionas con el tema. El texto inicia realizando una breve introducción sobre la importancia de la geopolítica en el siglo XXI; riesgos, relaciones entre diversos actores del sistema internacional y razones por las cuales compiten las naciones. Después se analizará, tomando uno de sus textos sobre discursos pronunciados durante la segunda mitad del siglo pasado, su pensamiento en estas áreas de la política que, con anterioridad, solo se ha visto en la práctica con el accionar del libertador Juan Rafael Mora Porras, en la Guerra Patria de 1856-1857.

    The current work meritorious exposes, for the first time, the scope and the validity of the geopo-litical thinking of a Costa Rican named Manuel Mora Valverde. Many studies have been carried out on his contribution to the social and political thought of Costa Rica, however, the analysis of the international relations of his time and his deep awareness of the American continent, have not been studied and have a relevant strategic nature for the understanding of the contemporary geopo-litical, economical, and ideological phenomena whitin the international studies, and it allows the opening of new research lines related to the topic. The text begins giving a brief introduction on the importance of geopolitics in the 21st century, as well as on the risks, relations among different actors of the international system, and reasons for which nations compete. Afterwards, his ideas on these political areas will be analyzed taking into account one of his texts that contain the spee-ches he pronounced during the second half of the previous century, ideas like these, had only been put into practice by the liberator Juan Rafael Mora Porras, in the Homeland war from 1856-1857
