Research and theories in the field of plant cognition show plants as complex organisms with their own agency. This calls for a new evaluation of the history and present of human communities, taking into account the active role played by various vegetal organisms. This article explores the possibilities of a vegetal political ecology and analyses the historical relationship between political ecology and the vegetal world. Its aim is to lay the foundations for a socio-natural theory that can account for the agency of plant organisms. The different types of human-plant interbreeding are examined -particularly their current state and their influence on the current eco-social crisis- in order to arrive at the concept of the Plantationocene. Finally, the alternatives to the unfavorable scenarios resulting from this crisis are considered, both at the ontological and the ethical-political level.
