    El establecimiento del Tribunal de Cuentas en la ciudad de Lima a principios del siglo XVII implicó una sucesión de conflictos de preeminencias que se agravaron con la llegada del virrey Montesclaros. Este estudio parte de aquellos conflictos y el contexto en que se desarrollaron para ahondar en la naturaleza del Tribunal de Cuentas como institución representativa del monarca. Para ello se atenderá a las capacidades documentales con las que fue dotado el tribunal y la apelación que hicieron sus contadores al uso del sello real en defensa de sus preeminencias, como signo de distinción y autoridad por encarnar a la misma persona del rey.

    The establishment of the Court of Accounts in the city of Lima at the beginning of the seventeenth century involved a succession of conflicts of pre-eminence that worsened with the arrival of Viceroy Montesclaros. This study starts from those conflicts andthe context in which they developed in order to delve into the nature of the Court of Accounts as an institution representing the monarch. To this end, the documentary capacities with which the court was endowed and the appeal made by its accountants to the use of the royal seal in defence of its pre-eminence, as a sign of distinction and authority for embodying the person of the king himself, will be examined.
