    Según Open Journal Systems, los editores tienen como función supervisar el proceso editorial, que comienza con la asignación de un responsable desde el momento mismo en que el manuscrito es recibido y discurre el largo camino de revisión de formato, evaluación por pares, ajustes solicitados por los árbitros, verificación de los cambios y publicación; igualmente, tienen a cargo la labor comunicativa entre autores, evaluadores y público interesado, sin dejar de lado las relaciones que la revista debe mantener con la academia y los órganos administrativos oficiales y los centros de documentación que le permiten hacer visible el trabajo llevado a cabo.
