Resumen de Generación Z: desafíos para la educación superior en el nuevo milenio

  La Generación Z (Gen Z), son personas nacidas después del año 2000. Algunos critican la manera en la que la Gen Z se desenvuelve, al ser intolerantes y explícitos al expresarse; pero también se reconoce su dominio tecnológico. El presente trabajo reflexiona sobre la Gen Z y cómo hacen frente estos jóvenes a los desafíos de la educación superior en el nuevo milenio. Para ello, los autores analizaron 30 trabajos de especialistas, en complemento con su experiencia docente en años recientes. De acuerdo con el análisis, la Gen Z ha tenido contacto con las tecnologías de información y comunicación (TIC) desde que nacieron, por lo que su interacción social se apoya en estos medios, facilitando el proceso enseñanza-aprendizaje durante la pandemia por COVID-19. Sin embargo, son considerados muy sensibles a la crítica, realizan el esfuerzo mínimo para cumplir con lo solicitado, les cuesta analizar, interpretar y generar contenido original, desarrollan más competencias blandas, pero requieren fortalecer competencias duras necesarias frente a nuevos retos en este milenio. En conclusión, la Gen Z posee intereses diferentes a las generaciones previas, pero con potencial de aprender y desarrollarse como individuos competentes y completos, mediante una buena guía e instrucción por parte del docente.

  Generation Z (Gen Z) are people born after the year 2000. Some criticize the way in which Gen Z develops, being intolerant and explicit when expressing themselves; but their technological mastery is also recognized. This work reflects on Gen Z and how these young people face the challenges of higher education in the new millennium. To do this, the authors analyzed 30 works by specialists, in addition to their teaching experience in recent years. According to the analysis, Gen Z has had contact with information and communication technologies (ICT) since they were born, so their social interaction is supported by these media, facilitating the teaching-learning process during the COVID-19 pandemic. However, they are considered very sensitive to criticism, they make the minimum effort to comply with what is requested, it is difficult for them to analyze, interpret and generate original content, they develop more soft skills, but they require strengthening the hard skills necessary to face new challenges in this millennium. In conclusion, Gen Z has different interests than previous generations, but with potential to learn and develop as competent and well-rounded individuals, through good guidance and instruction by teachers.
